BigCarClub is the new name for FordMPV.com, it's an automotive forum designed for owners and enthusiasts of large Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPV) such as the Ford Galaxy and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) such as the Volkswagen Touareg. We are based in the UK but cater for the European market with particular interest in Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) - Volkswagen, SEAT, Audi, Skoda and Porsche. Our website originally started in 1995 as mirez, a companion site to what is now talkford. It catered specifically for the Ford Mondeo and followed the work of Mirez, providing how-to, wiring diagrams and modification information. In 2007 Mirez bought a Ford Galaxy and with the popularity of seven seat people carriers taking off, FordMPV was formed which catered for all owners of the Ford Galaxy as well as the VW Sharan and SEAT Alhambra. The Ford Galaxy, SEAT Alhambra and Volkswagen Sharan all shared the same chassis platform (WGR) since they were a joint development between Ford and Volkswagen. In 2006 Ford announced the introduction of it's solo product the Ford Galaxy Mk3 and 'sporty' version, the Ford S-Max. FordMPV also served as an automotive forum for the rest of the Ford and VW MPV range such as the Ford C-Max and smaller seven seater people carriers such as the Ford S-Max and VW Touran.
As the popularity of Sports Utility Vehicles grew, people carrier popularity declined and in 2021 Volkswagen Group quietly announced the retirement of its largest MPVs, the Volkswagen Sharan and SEAT Alhambra. Choosing to focus on its SUV range instead, the next few years saw a number of SUVs introduced to the VW range. With the future of the Ford Galaxy and Ford S-Max also in question, in 2022, we renamed FordMPV to BigCarClub with emphasis being put on larger models from European manufactures. These MPVs and SUVs still include the Ford Galaxy and Ford S-Max but also the Ford Transit derived vehicles like the Crew Cab Transit, Tourneo Transit and the Transit Minibus. We also now cover the Ford Kuga and Ford Edge. From the VAG group, we still cover the Volkswagen Sharan and SEAT Alhambra but we have grown to include other MPV and SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan, Audi Q5, Porsche Macan and SEAT Ateca which are the mid-sized SUVs. Also, the larger SUV range which covers the Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.
The team at BigCarClub have been maintaining and modifying vehicles for years with over 100 years collective experience in this industry. The admin team have all owned MPVs and came together over the Ford Galaxy seven seater although many have owned larger SUVs such as Porsche Cayenne and Volvo XC90. From basic maintenance advice to complex engine rebuilds, electrical issues, retrofits, vehicle coding and diagnostics, BigCarClub is designed to be a user friendly experience where all owners and drivers of MPVs and SUVs can come to get unbiased advise on their vehicle. BigCarClub automotive forums are dedicated to owners of larger MPV and SUVs and this means we have special interest in off road capability, towing caravans and boats as well as payloads and vehicle weights. Most of our core members are professional engineers, technicians, designers or enthusiasts. These members have not only a collective knowledge, but access to wiring diagrams, parts catalogues, club discounts and vehicle handbooks. The MPV and SUV sector continue to be largely Petrol and Diesel although PHEV and EV vehicles will start to make more of an appearance as we progress into the second half of this decade and technology improves. The Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne Hybrid which (introduced in 2011) are examples of how manufactures are keen to push forward the technology and the latest Cayenne E-Hybrid now has a claimed MPG of over 90 compared to the 42 of the previous generations.
